The first week of March, I sent out a link (via Twitter and Facebook) to an article in which Xzibit, Pusha T (from the Clipse), Drake and Nicki Minaj speak about their writing processes.
Then last week I shared Daniel Pink’s rules for writing and followed up with seven that I try to follow.
This week we’ve got a video featuring comments by one of the best wordsmiths of our generation, Jay-Z. In this short video, Jigga describes his process for songwriting.
The quick summary (the order of these steps is of high importance):
- Find the emotion of the beat
- Figure out the melody the lyrics should have
- Scribe the words
Sounds easy, right? It seems like for him it always is.
