High School for Recording Arts Cover Story in the City Pages

Last week, the Twin Cities’ City Pages published a cover story about Hip Hop High–the High School for Recording Arts in St Paul, Minnesota.  The article touches on HSRA’s unique brand of hip-hop education that has developed over the past 12 years.  For those of you familiar with the book I have been working on over the past several years–Hip Hop Genius–this is the school that the book is focused on.

It’s a really positive piece and, while it errs toward the putting-kid’s-business-on-blast style of writing about youth programs that generally makes me uncomfortable, it redeems itself by showing the important role schools can and should play in young peoples’ lives.  It helps that the article focuses on an earnest and talented crew of HSRA students.
